Learning to Capture Manchester

I love Manchester.

I’ve travelled all over the world — 35 countries, 6 continents — lived and worked abroad, and every place I’ve visited has the hard job of being compared to town. There are few places, in my mind, that can hold a torch to what we’ve built here.

But, I’ve always found it impossible to capture. It’s hard to see in a place where you feel like you’ve seen everything.

That why, in 2026, I’ve started my ‘Learning to Capture Manchester’ challenge. (It needs a better name, I’ll admit.) I’m going out into a part of Greater Manchester at least once a week, to try and find photographs and learn to see this place I love so much.

Perhaps it’ll become a book or a zine. Perhaps it’ll stay confined to this page. I guess we’ll find out.
